having to bite my tongue...

so I did my OB rotation at a local hospital the last 2 days. and today, i worked with a nurse who kept mentioning to every co-worker, about her calf hurting and wanting advice because she runs and she took a week off and it was just horrible to have "something wrong!" like a pulled muscle from running 8 miles+jump ropeing+ time at the gym etc...
she was bitching about how horrible this was (the pain was secondary, she was primarily talking about the "emotional" side of things of not being able to do something she wanted because her "body is starting to fall apart!" -.....

Ohhhh man it took every ounce of will power not to give her a glimps into what I've dealt with, and what Ive had is soo minor compared to so many other EDS-ers out there.. oh wow, so u pulled a muscle by way over doing yourself and and its SO "emotionally" challeneging to handle and come to terms with, and not just get out there and go running again.....
how about waking up and your neck tryin to dislocate itself randomly?
or all the other numerous lil things that happen daily that i usually just ignore or do my best to...
or ya know, the whole.. arthritis at the age of 25, and all my numerous braces and splints and HOURS of physical therapy tryin to hold things together...

no, she was EMOTIONALLY distraught, because she over-did herself RUNNING... which is something that i'm quite sure i would injure myself far more significantly if i tried to do.. besides, she ended up giving a lil demonstration on proper form to another Nurse, which i know for a fact i couldn't do for more than 3min cuz not even mentioning all the joint instability issues involved in my ankles/hips/knees and feet, but it would flare up my neuroma in my left foot despite the best orthotics possible, so id end up with what feels like someone taking a sharp very hot poker and stabbing me thru the top of my foot...not only when i walk but also when im laying in bed..

(side note: damn i hope i can either have decent insurance soon or enough money to pay out of pocket for new orthotics cuz mine are a bit too worn down to work as well anymore.. i keep gettin twinges of pain when im working and it scares me to have that pain again)

- also a lil irritating...
another OB nurse was complaining about not having any solutions for her triage patient with sciatic pain about to be sent home , and so i spoke up, and offered a few possible suggestions including a SI belt and some of the PT maneuvers that slide things back in place... not stretches, and not even the muscle tone ones tho i can't imagine those harming a pregnant chick, lax joints are lax joints...,anyway so the maneuvers provide almost insta-relief for a lil while.... and she was all "oh no no, someone with lax hips doesn't want to do stretches, it'll make it worse!, PT won't help something like that, its just a pregnancy thing."
I briefly then said that my experience with that exact pain is actually from lax joints and ligaments.. and that i wasnt referring to stretches at all... (i think i said it was from a genetic deal i have or somecrap)
i wasnt even suggesting she do any of the PT-stuff i know that has helped me, I was suggesting that perhaps if its that bad that she came into the ER and then OB triage, and shes still got a few months to go...perhaps she should see a physical therapist who could possibly offer some additional suggestions...

btw, shortly after this convo... the doc called back and suggested the patient follow up with her primary about getting an SI belt... HA!

oddly enough, my best friend is pregnante and was complaining of the exact same pain today.. i had her describe it and im all "ohh yea! Ive been dealing with that since i was 18 and i fell down those steps" lol... i did chiropractic and physical therapy for that. thankgod its only periodic now, and i have my belt as backup in case it freaks out when i'm working.

i havent been going to curves regularly again =( dangit. need to use my travel pass and goto one close to where im precepting or working, so that i can "unwind" while i drive the 30min-1hr home... must. work. out. my joints feel a lot better when I do...

i graduate nursing school in 2 1/2 weeks...
wow.
its actually gunna freakin happen!!

okay...its bedtime. brace is on, light is out, cats are on my legs lol..
nighty night.

Sounds like a boat load of annoyance... I don't think I would've been able to contain my irritation.
